One third of Denmark's land area consists of islands, small and large, inhabited and uninhabited. For Denmark, a rather small country in terms of area, this adds up to an enormous length of coastline. No wonder that the Danes consider their country to be an "island kingdom". The journey begins at the chalk cliffs of the island of Møn. Storms and water have taken their toll on the coastline, and some of the most prominent chalk outcrops have been lost forever.
