Cheyenne (SEAN PENN) was a celebrated rock star. He's 50 years old and still looks the same, a goth with black, tousled hair, a white made-up face and red lipstick. For years, he has lived in seclusion with his wife Jane (FRANCES McDORMAND) in a Dublin mansion, always wavering gently between cultivated boredom and gnawing depression. The death of his father, with whom he has not spoken in 30 years, leads him back to New York. There he learns of his father's obsession: to get revenge for a grave humiliation he suffered.
