This journey became a legend: In 1947, the young explorer Thor Heyerdahl crosses the vastness of the Pacific Ocean on a self-built raft made of balsa wood, called Kon-Tiki - with an uncertain outcome. The risky research trip is the only real chance for the Norwegian to prove his revolutionary theory: Polynesia was first settled 1500 years ago - and precisely with such a raft - from South America. In doing so, he is not only defying the entire scientific community, Heyerdahl is also putting his life - and the love of his life - on the line. For almost 8000 kilometers, the non-swimmer sails across the open sea on the primitive raft together with a crew of five. Without any modern equipment, the Kon-Tiki is exposed to the forces of nature on a daily basis. The crew only maintains contact with the outside world at times via a radio. The life-threatening expedition quickly becomes a media phenomenon that moves the entire world. The secrets of the deep sea, violent hurricanes and brutal shark attacks in combination with great emotions and conflicts within the small team make the tour one of the most spectacular adventures of the 20th century.
